AM: 12011 Musee d’Orsay, housed in the former Gare d’Orsay Railway station

Musee d’Orsay. Paris. View of the central aisle with its sculptures.
Designed by Victor Laloux, this turn of the century building was commissioned by the Orleans railway company to be its terminus in the heart of Paris. In 1986, 47 years after it closed, it re-opened as a museum. It was set up to present each of the arts of the period from 1848 to 1914 in the context of the contemporary society at the time.
